This Month's Studio Rumble: Best Movie One-Liner

Tribester Opinions

David Mamet always seems to place some great zingers in his films. His film "State and Main" which was released in 2000 is about the compromises artists make in working in a commercial world to get a film produced. Having left New Hampshire over excessive demands by the locals, the cast and crew of "The Old Mill" moves their movie shoot to a small town in Vermont. Soon chaos ensues for the fictional film production after the discovery the town's landmark Old Mill burned down years ago. As such a moralistic screenwriter learns he has to put his career ahead of his principles. While and authoritative director and his fast talking producer struggle to keep the production together, while dealing with the locals and leading actors who have their own problems. At one point the actor's who are playing the director, producer and screenwriter of the film within the film have this exchange. Screenwriter: But that is not the truth it is a lie. Director: It's not a lie. It's a gift for fiction. Producer: We will make it up to her we will give her an assistant producer credit Screenwriter: What's an assistant producer credit? Director: It's what you give to your secretary instead of a raise. Screenwriter: But it's absurd. Producer: So is our electoral process, but we still vote. In walks a crew member with some wardrobe samples. Director: Hey these are great they are faggy without being homosexual.

My one liner comes form the Godfather, and no it's not "Make him an offer he can't refuse" or "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes". This line comes after Sonny has Clemenza and Rocco exact his revenge on Paulie, for his set up of Vito. After Rocco gives Paulie a few shots to the back of the head as he sits in the drivers seat, Clemenza instructs him:

"Leave the gun, take the cannolis."
-- Joe Kaput

If by 'best' you mean the one I say the most, it would have to be the line from Old Man Clemens in the movie Billy Madison: "Don't tell me my business, Devil Woman. Call the fire department, this one's outta control."
-- Andy Owens

"Heeeeey youuuuu guyyyyyys" -Sloth (The Goonies)
-- Carrie Pendergast
